Yac, born Yacob Fonoti, is an Australian singer-songwriter and guitarist. He was born in Auckland, New Zealand and raised in Brisbane Australia. His father Toni Fonoti is in the New Zealand Rock 'n Roll hall of fame as lead singer and songwriter for the legendary reggae band “The Herbs.” Yac learned how to sing, write and perform, while growing up watching his father perform all over Australia and New Zealand.
Throughout his childhood and early teens he was heavily influenced by soul, pop and rap music. By 2004 at the age of fourteen he had taught himself the guitar and had already began playing professional gigs. In 2011 Yac decided to make a career out of performing and began playing shows full time. By 2012 he was playing five nights a week throughout Brisbane. He also began posting videos of himself singing covers on Youtube alongside his brother Noah. Their videos quickly gained a lot of attention and after a few months their YouTube channel had over 1.3 million hits.
Since then Yac has been playing music either solo or alongside Noah as “The Fonoti Brothers” all across Australia. In 2014 he released his debut album “What Lane?” the following year “The Fonoti Brothers” released their debut album. Today Yac is still a busy man playing around three hundred gigs a year and constantly working on new music.
